White rose dumplings must be made with water from the Ba Le Well. It is made with translucent white dough filled with spiced minced shrimp or pork. It is served with a special dipping sauce made with shrimp broth, chilies, lemon, and sugar. These fried dumplings were incredibly light and crispy with a little sogginess on the top. The tomato sauce is very simple and usually contains pineapple.

The people were just making food in the back, so you know it’s going to fresh, but I thought it’s supposed to be a secret recipe. Very cool! Just pick between an unbruised wallet and a full stomach though.

2. Bánh Mì Phượng (Phuong`s Bread)

It is no coincidence that “Banh Mi Phuong” was voted as “The best Bread in Viet Nam”. Bread contains pâté, pickled vegetables, cucumbers and meat with by a little sauce. Before guests call, bread must always be kept hot and crunchy. The bread is so crunchy on the outside and cloud-like on the inside. It opens from 6:30 AM until 9:30 PM every day and almost always crowded.

3. Quán ăn Hai (Mr. Hai Restaurant)

Mr. Hai Restaurant is known for both dishes: “Cao Lau” and “Mi Quang”. “Cao Lau” is delicious and reasonably priced! It made with rice flour noodles, cha siu pork served with local greens. Those squares of fried pork skin are awesome. In this restaurant, “Mi Quang” is very good. It  is topped with shrimp, pork, hard-boiled egg, peanuts, rice cracker, and fresh greens. The noodles were nice and chewy. Its broth is made by bone broth before seasoning with fish sauce, shallots, black pepper,… I thought they were equally delicious.

4. Bà Bảy (Aunt Bay`s Banh Beo)

Banh Beo” means “water fern cake”. It is very simple as its name suggests but very delicious. It is usually placed in small cups with rice flour, tapioca flour, stuffing (from shrimp and pork ground) and topped with fried onion and fish sauce. Make sure that, you will probably enjoy a few dozen bowls.

Aunt Bay`s Banh Beo is the best “Banh Beo” restaurants that you should eat in Hoi An on the sidewalk. It is located at the corner of the old wall on Hoang Van Thu Street. You can find “Aunt Bay” by her sign against the orange wall that reads “Ba Bay, Banh Beo, Banh Nam”.

It usually comes with two pieces – crispy and wet rice paper. You must be set it down on the table and made it crack by smashing it. Two dishes are a specialty specific to Cam Nam and definitely worth visiting the island for.

This is a classic Vietnamese eatery used by locals & a few non-locals for a good meal.
